The following are Pastor Matthew’s comments on the war in Ukraine, given from the platform at New Hope Church on Sunday, February 27, 2022.
New Hope Church is a Christ-centered community for all peoples. Because this is so we, therefore, have a keen attentiveness to the crisis unfolding in Eastern Europe. Our hearts are seared by what is going on. We are hurting with them. The Word of God tells us in Hebrews 13:3 to “remember those who are mistreated.” During these days we remember with great care the people of Ukraine.
Allow me to be very clear. I speak directly and lovingly, for truth always springs from genuine love. Vladimir Putin and his ilk are sociopathic thugs. The people of Ukraine are people of immeasurable courage, resolve, and integrity. So, too, are those in Russia who are pushing against the totalitarianism under which they live.
I ask you to join me in praying for three specific items. First, pray that the people of Ukraine will have strength to endure, unmitigated courage for the fight, and resolve. Secondly, ask God to command Satan and those peddling his evils to stand down. Pray their wicked designs would be frustrated. Pray that Putin and his regime would fall. Thirdly, pray that from our glorious King Jesus, our Prince of Peace, would flow shalom sufficient to dominate the days ahead. May His goodness, mercy, and love be manifest in the face of such wickedness and calamity.
