What to do with Power?
One of the most compelling features of Jesus is his relentless stewardship of power. “Who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant.” Key moments include his refusal to be made king by a crowd driven by full bellies and nationalistic dreams (John 6:15), and his denial of the angelic armies that could have prevented his arrest and crucifixion (Matthew 26:53–54). Jesus was not powerless—he was purposefully restrained. May the same be true of all who claim his name and walk in his authority.
