TEDS Is Welcome at TWU

Pastor Matthew’s recent letter to TEDS alumni and supporters on why TEDS@TWU matters so much:

To Friends Far and Wide,

People often ask me why I care so deeply about Trinity Western University.

As Chair of TWU's Board of Governors, I could point to academic excellence, student experience, or the University's influence through graduates serving around the world. But as a pastor in the Evangelical Free Church of America, my answer is much simpler:

I love TWU because it has never lost sight of its mission.

At its heart, Trinity Western University exists to develop godly Christian leaders who will serve Christ faithfully wherever he calls them. Through seasons of growth, challenge, and opportunity, that commitment has remained steadfast, shaping both the intellectual and spiritual formation of its students.

That is why I am so excited about the arrival of Trinity Evangelical Divinity School on the campus of Trinity Western University.

For generations, TEDS has been known for theological fidelity, academic excellence, and a deep commitment to serving Christ and his church. When I look at TEDS and TWU, I do not see two institutions searching for common ground. I see two communities that already share it.

We share a commitment to the authority of Scripture, a historic evangelical statement of faith, a passion for preparing Christian leaders, and a conviction that education should transform both hearts and minds for faithful service in God's Kingdom.

That is why TEDS feels so naturally at home at TWU.

Faculty have been warmly welcomed by students, staff, and the broader university community, and there is genuine excitement about this new chapter. Together, we are praying that God will use this partnership to strengthen churches, equip leaders, and prepare a new generation to proclaim Christ with conviction and grace.

As someone who loves the church and believes deeply in the future of theological education, I see tremendous opportunity ahead. The need for biblically grounded, spiritually mature, mission-focused leaders has never been greater. Through TEDS at TWU, students will be formed within a Christ-centred university environment that values theological rigor, spiritual formation, mentorship, and practical ministry preparation.

For those who have supported TEDS over the years, I want you to know this:

TEDS is welcomed here.

Not simply as a guest or a new program, but as a valued part of a shared mission that has shaped generations and, God willing, will continue to serve Christ and his church for generations to come.

Thank you for your prayers, encouragement, and partnership during this important season. As we look ahead, I am grateful for God's faithfulness and confident in what he will continue to accomplish through TEDS at Trinity Western University.
