Celebrating Trinity Evangelical Divinity School
Pastor Matthew’s remarks at the opening celebration for Trinity Evangelical Divinity School at Trinity Western University, Thursday, September 10, 2026:
Good afternoon, everyone.
Welcome to this special celebration. My name is Matthew St. John, and I have the privilege of serving as chair of the Board of Governors for Trinity Western University.
I speak for every one of our governors when I say how grateful, humbled, and enthusiastic we are that Trinity Evangelical Divinity School has found its home with TWU.
Within God’s Word, a trio of themes is prominent: Remembrance, Conveyance, and Rejoicing.
From time immemorial, God’s people have been charged to remember God’s faithfulness and the unique legacies of those God-fearing women and men who have gone before us. Roots matter, and the ancient stories of God’s faithfulness through people and time, to all the created order, culminating in the reign of our Lord Jesus Christ, continue to shape us.
Passing these stories forward is a necessary part of Kingdom work. The conveyance of who God is, what He has done, and what our role is in His redemptive purposes is an ongoing responsibility. From Abraham to his progeny, from Moses to Joshua, from David to Solomon, from Jesus to the first apostles, and from them to subsequent generations—investing forward matters.
And celebrating this great God, all He has done and all He shall continue to do, is a hallmark of deep gratitude, humility, and anticipation.
It is this rejoicing that finds us here today.
Like the saints of old, we seek to remember—recognizing an important legacy. TEDS truly is a crown jewel of global theological thought and ministry preparation.
Like the saints of old, we choose to convey—intentionally equipping future disciples who will lift high the cross of Christ across the globe.
And like those saints of old, we do rejoice—grateful to God for carrying TEDS forward as a strategic force for Kingdom advancement.
What a privilege it is to remember what God has done, to equip new generations of global disciples, and to celebrate His faithfulness together today.
Rest assured, the Board of Governors stands unshakably committed to TEDS’ enduring fruitfulness as a strategic Kingdom catalyst for global gospel transformation.
