An Evening Hymn

The night has a way of awakening the burdens of the day. Anxiety runs through the soul, fears are replayed, and the mind wrestles for rest. Kings and those who would be kings experience such moments. Perhaps that is why David penned Psalm 4, the “Evening Hymn,” reminding us: “In peace I will both lie down and sleep; for you alone, O LORD, make me dwell in safety.”

The pathway to rest begins by entrusting to God the things consuming us. Confess them. Cast your anxieties upon him. Remember that the night belongs to him as much as the day. Then choose to trust: “I will lie down and sleep.”
