Write This Down: Power Lunch Notes

“Write This Down…” provides a restatement of selected points or observations from various teaching venues at which Pastor Matthew speaks, and particularly from the weekend messages at Bethel Church. The following material is from Pastor Matthew’s presentation at the Fargo-Moorhead Power Lunch, September 9, 2010:

For too many kings of Judah faithfulness is mere expedience on the road to power and security, which, once had, finds faithfulness being easily discarded. In many cases these kings listened to the counsel of unsavory advisers, particularly ignoring the wisdom of the graybeards; this contrasts having spirits of teachability and humility.

Furthermore, they sought legitimacy and expansion of power, or sought protection, through inappropriate alliances; this contrasts using discernment so as to not be unequally yoked.

Beyond this, they ignored opportunities to build upon significant teaching moments in which God had proven worthy of a lifetime of allegiance; this contrasts not capturing God-moments on which to build their faith and empires.

And, these kings came to believe their tenure was about them and not the Lord or the constructive legacy they might leave behind; this contrasts being utterly selfless and other-centered.

The Power Lunch is a free lunch targeting all business professionals in the Fargo-Moorhead community taking place from 11:30 – 1:00 (lunch from 11:30 – 12:15) on the 2nd Thursday of each month, at Bethel Church in Fargo. A free will offering opportunity is also provided. In addition to lunch, there is a scripture based message that is relevant to the daily challenges and struggles faced in the business workplace.
